WATERLOO -- Mary Rosalee Cooley Johnson, 89, formerly of Waterloo, died Sunday, March 2, 2014, at Park View Manor, Reinbeck.

She was born Sept. 1, 1924, to Oliver Edward and Lucy Mae Cooley. She married Loyd A. Johnson on July 4, 1944, in Nevada; he died in April 2002.

Mary graduated from Audubon High School, Audubon, in 1941, and attended Simpson College, Indianola, for a year. She was employed in legal and public school secretarial positions, prior to completing a bachelor’s degree with Simpson College. She taught English in the Dumont school for several years before retiring from teaching. She attended various United Methodist churches across Iowa.

Survived by a son, Loyd E. of Nashua; a daughter, Rosemary (Steve) Fenton of Waterloo; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Cooley; and her parents.

Services: Family and friends will gather in worship and fellowship Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Kimball Avenue United Methodist Church, Waterloo.

A memorial fund had been designated for “College-Bound Scholarship to Teach English,” administered by family.
