WATERLOO - Edmund J. Schmitt, 84 of Waterloo, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008 at Allen Hospital.

He was born May 7, 1924, in Dewar, son of Albert and Martha Hayes Schmitt.

Mr. Schmitt farmed in the Dewar area all his life, retiring in 1990.

Survived by two brothers, Robert F. of Raymond and Albert B. of Waterloo; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Roger (Mary) and Raymond (Betty) Schmitt; a sister, Margaret Schmitt (Joe) Frost; a sister-in-law, Mary Schmitt; a niece, Diane Schmitt Middelburg; and four nephews, Jim Schmitt, Tom Schmitt and Steve Schmitt and Joseph M. Frost Jr. in infancy.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with burial at 1:30 p.m. in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Barclay Township. Public visitation from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. Legion of Mary rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also an hour before services Wednesday at the church.
