WATERLOO - Sonia Maidan, 87, of Boca Raton, Fla., formerly of Waterloo, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, in Boca Raton.

She was born March 18, 1921, in Warsaw, Poland, daughter of Chiam and Esther Dombek Piasek. She married Joseph Maidan on Feb. 2, 1940, in Grojek, Poland. He died Sept. 27, 1993.

Mrs. Maidan and her husband owned and operated J & M. Clothiers on East Fifth and Sycamore streets until retirement in 1974. She was a World War II Holocaust survivor and came to the United States in 1949.

Survived by a daughter, Rifka Maidan of Boca Raton; two sons, Henry (Sandy) of Cedar Falls and Rubin (Jana) of Seattle; and three grandchildren, Erin Maidan (Yedidya) Greenberg, Elisha Maidan and Michael Maidan.

Services: 2 p.m. today at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery chapel, with burial in Beth Olem Section of the cemetery. There will be no visitation. Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to Sons of Jacob Synagogue.
