WATERLOO - James Louis Wright, 74, of Waterloo, died at home Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, of lung cancer.

He was born July 31, 1934, in Central City, son of Rollo and Dorsie Willmott Wright. He married Bertha Michaels in 1955, and they later divorced. He married Marlene Hendricks in 1966, and they later divorced. He married Frances Miller on July 20, 1991, in Waterloo.

Mr. Wright farmed in Northeast Iowa and retired from the John Deere foundry in 1992. He served in the U.S. Army and most recently volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Kenneth (Sharon) of Sterling, Ill., and John (Kelly) of Ackley; a daughter, Vicky King of Dixon, Ill.; four stepsons, Joe, Mark, Greg (Lynette) and Tony Miller, all of Waterloo; three stepdaughters, Teresa (Allen) Benson and Melissa (Kurt) Schmitz, both of Waterloo, and Michelle (Jeff) Mason of Tripoli; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 21 stepgrandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; two sisters, Phyllis Fields of Phoenix and Joyce Adler of Coppell, Texas; and two brothers, George (Edna) of Hampton and David of Oelwein.

Preceded in death by his parents; and two infant sons, Marvin and Edward.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4:30 p.m. Legion of Mary rosary and 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church, Cedar Valley Hospice or St. Vincent DePaul.

James enjoyed helping others, and that was very important to him. He also enjoyed dancing, auctions, family get-togethers, playing tennis and bicycling.
