WATERLOO - Joan W. McCombs, 86, of Manor Care Nursing and Rehab Center, died there Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, of natural causes.

She was born Aug. 9, 1922, in Cleveland, County of York, England, daughter of Fredrick and Ada Markham Winter. She married Clarence 'Mac' McCombs on Aug. 29, 1945, in County of York. He died May 23, 1998.

Survived by a son, Michael of Buckingham; a daughter, Cheryl Niedert of Waterloo; six grandchildren, Terrie Miller, Brenda (Rick) Forstall, Tammy Jo (Steven) Rambo, Amanda McCombs, Tim (Rachael) Niedert and Christopher McCombs; three great-grandchildren, Brandon (Kristen) Miller, Nick (Lisa) Miller and Zack (Megan) Miller; and two great-great-granddaughters, Kendra Miller and Destiny Moore.

Preceded in death by a son, Patrick McCombs; a grandson, Jason McCombs; and a brother, Harry Winter.

Family-conducted memorial services: tentatively set for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Episcopal Church, preceded by an hour of visitation. Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway is assisting the family.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

With love we celebrate her life, this one so very dear. And cherish precious memories that seem to bring her near. Although we mourn her with broken hearts and tears, she passed peacefully on her 86th birthday, we're thankful that she was in our lives for so many years.
