ELK RUN HEIGHTS - Calvin Curtis Ames, 73, of Elk Run Heights, died Monday, July 11, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo, of cancer.

He was born May 23, 1932, in Franklin Township, Allamakee County, son of Austin David and Helen Huffman Ames. He married Juanita L. Howard on Aug. 18, 1956, in Waterloo.

Mr. Ames retired from John Deere in September 1987 after 32 years of service. He also was an interior/exterior house painter and farmhand. He was active at St. Marks United Methodist Church in Evansdale.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Calvin Jr. (Molly) of Faribault, Minn.; a daughter, Lisa Kruse of Elk Run Heights; two grandchildren, Toni Shaske of Faribault and Jarrett Kruse of Elk Run Heights; two brothers, Clayton (Delores) of Janesville, Wis., and David (Judeen) of Prairie du Chien, Wis.; and six sisters, Meredith (Gary) Gentes and Bonnie Hines, both of Prairie du Chien, Marilyn (Bob) Havlik of Cedar Rapids, Diane (Henry) Benhart of Oelwein, Darlene Moon of Monona and Audrey Bennett of Hawkeye.

Preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Donna Mae Protsman.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Marks United Methodist Church, with burial in Garden of Memories. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, and for an hour before services Friday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
