WATERLOO - James W. "Jim" McCombs, 84, of Waterloo, died Thursday, July 7, 2005, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab.

He was born June 18, 1921, in Tracy, son of Guy and Hazel Gray McCombs. He married Nadine Frese on Sept. 5, 1942, in Queen City, Mo.

Mr. McCombs served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was a postal carrier in Waterloo for 34 years, retiring in 1980. He enjoyed all sports, played baseball and loved golfing. He served on the building committee at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. Jim loved his family dearly, especially the grandchildren.

Survived by his beloved wife, Nadine, of nearly 63 years; two sons, David (Bobbi) of Littleton, Colo., and Kevin (Kathy) of Cedar Falls; three granddaughters, Jessica McCombs and Tiffani McCombs, both of Cedar Falls, and Amy (Nick) Lane of Denver, Colo.; and a great-grandson, Liam Jensen Lane of Denver, Colo.

Preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Kenneth.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, with private family inurnment at a later date. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. today at Parrott and Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, and for an hour before services Monday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church.
