WATERLOO - Calvin J. Hilligas Sr., 71, of 106 E. Third St., Apt. 605, formerly of Chelsea, died Saturday, July 2, 2005, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Iowa City, following a long illness.

He was born Jan. 21, 1934, in Aliceville, Kan., son of John and Carrie Loschen Hilligas.

Mr. Hilligas served in the U.S. Navy for 22 years.

Survivors include two sons, Calvin Jr. (Deb) of Sioux Falls, S.D., and John (Debra) of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Raylene Behounek of Belle Plaine; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; three brothers, John (Betty) of Livona, Mich., Merle of Garnett, Kan., and Earl of Arkansas; and six sisters, Dorothy Prusha, Doris (Larry) Freese and Virginia McFatridge, all of Chelsea, Elsie Blomme and Nancy Masterson, both of Belle Plaine, and Frances (Bob) Kaufman of Traer.

Preceded in death by Darlene Hilligas; a son, Scott; a daughter, Joy Lynn Hilligas; and a grandson.

Services were 10:30 a.m. today at Hrabak Funeral Home, Belle Plaine, with burial and military rites in Rector Cemetery, rural Chelsea.
