WATERLOO - James R. "Jim" McClain, 72, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, July 6, 2005, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home of leukemia.

He was born Dec. 7, 1932, in Sumner, son of Archie and Hilda Mohlis McClain. He married Nancy Modlin on Sept. 23, 1956, at First United Methodist Church, Waterloo.

Mr. McClain was a self-employed over the road truck driver for 23 years. He purchased Black Hawk Rental in 1977, retiring in 1997. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Kelly (Lisa) and Kevin (Kathy), both of Waterloo, and Kurtis (Donna) of Paddock Lake, Wis.; a daughter, Karla (Joe) Lynch of Dallas, Ga.; an adopted son, Van Dao of Honolulu; seven grandchildren, three adopted grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and five stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother, Duane (Helen) of Waterloo; and four sisters, Beverly Bailey of Oran, Betty Smith of Marion, and Mabel Sandhagen and Iva (Dan) Mickelson, both of Phoenix.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Grace Brethren Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 138 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Locke Funeral Home, from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. Saturday at the church.
