CEDAR FALLS - Mary Clare Buchholz, 65, of Cedar Falls, died Friday, March 14, 2014, at Holy Cross Hospital, Silver Spring, Md.

She was born Aug. 2, 1948, in Chicago, daughter of Frederick and Cicely Hipkin Aschman. She married Larry Buchholz on June 14, 1975, at Wellington United Church of Christ, Chicago.

Mary graduated with a bachelor’s degree in social work from the University of Wisconsin and a master’s degree in early childhood education from the University of Illinois. She taught at day care centers in Chicago, Sheboygan, Wis., and Chippewa Falls, Wis. In recent years she had been an administrator at Tri-County Head Start and subsequently was associate director of Waverly Child Care and Preschool in Waverly, retiring in 2011. She was a member of United Church of Christ and died various volunteering with community meals, Habitat for Humanity, and Up with Families.

Survived by her husband; two daughters, Brittany (Cameron) Argotsinger of Silver Spring and Heather (Jason) Graf of Chicago; a grandson, Carson Graf; and a brother, Richard (Susan) Aschman of Catonsville, Md.

Preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Michael Aschman.

Celebration of Life: 11 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Falls United Church of Christ, with inurnment at a later date. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, Cedar Falls, and an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Mary had a love and passion for children.
