CEDAR FALLS - Paul Cedric Staebell, 92, of the Western Home Communities, died Thursday, July 3, 2008, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo, of natural causes.

He was born Dec. 25, 1915, in Dunkerton, son of Michael and Mary Nuebel Staebell. He married Clare Schmitz on Aug. 16, 1947, in Waterloo.

Mr. Staebell served in the U.S. Army as a corporal during World War II in the African and European Theatre. He farmed in the Dunkerton area.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Paul Jerome (Twyla) of Dunkerton and Robert Francis (Christine Rose) of Richardson, Texas; five daughters, Kathleen (Steve) McCrea of Cedar Falls, Suzanne (John) Pezzanite of Goshen, Ind., Sandra Staebell of Bowling Green, Ky., Sara McClintock of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., and Margaret (Timothy) Thomas of Webster, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Sr. Leah Staebell SSND of Mankato, Minn.; a brother, Michael (Mary Jane) of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by a son, Timothy; four brothers, William, Francis, Joseph and Fr. Vincent Staebell SVD; and five sisters, Christine Nemmers, Margaret Corkery, Elizabeth Staebell, Mary Ehr and Dorothy Meadows.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Waterloo, with burial in St. Francis Cemetery, rural Dunkerton. Full graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Peter Kress Post 636 of Dunkerton. Public visitation from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, Waterloo, where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also an hour before services Tuesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.
