CEDAR FALLS - Melvin F. Tibbetts, 83, of Cedar Falls, died at home Friday, March 7, 2014.

He was born Nov. 14, 1930, in Peterson, son of Harold B. and Gladys B. Fields Tibbetts. He married Marilyn Snow and they later divorced. He then married Nancy Anders Husome in 1991.

A graduate of La Porte City High School, Mel received his bachelor's degree from Iowa State University and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was employed as a salesman, welder, and later store manager with Superior Welding for 30 years, retiring in 1992.

Survived by his wife; three daughters, Kristen (Bob) Engelmann, Karen (Wayne) Eckhoff and Linda (Dennis) Frisbey, all of Waterloo; a stepson, Tony Husome of Cedar Falls; three stepdaughters, Penny Bentley, Jody (Cal) Grittman and Chris (Jeff) Paulson, all of Cedar Falls; eight grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Bonnie Tibbetts and Beverly (George) Huntbach, both of Waterloo, and Virginia (Harold) Smith of Woodbridge, Va.

Preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Torner and Donna Hurley.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, with burial the Garden of Memories, both in Waterloo. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Richardson Funeral Service, Cedar Falls, and for an hour before services Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Bend Humane Society or the Cedar Valley Dialysis DaVita Unit.
