EVANSDALE - James "Deacon" Blackmon Sr., 81, of Evansdale, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home of complications from a stroke.

He was born May 22, 1927, in Newton, Ala., son of Izaih and Genovia Judah Blackmon. He married Barbara Mohs on May 4, 1984, in Waterloo.

Mr. Blackmon worked for E&M Machine and Tool, retiring in 1987. He also served in the U.S. Navy and was past president of Nuggets MC of Southern California.

Survived by: his wife; two daughters, Linda (Josh) Dunkel and Tina (Lucas) Turner, both of Evansdale; a son, Galen Shaffer of Evansdale; and seven grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a brother; two sisters; and a grandson.

Services: There will be no services or visitation. His body has been cremated.
