WATERLOO - Helen R. Thompson, 87, of 1119 Kent Circle, formerly of Buckingham and Geneseo Township, died Wednesday, June 1, 2005, at Allen Hospital.

She was born Dec. 10, 1917, in Buckingham, daughter of James Roger and Maude Brandhorst Thompson. She graduated from Geneseo Country School and received her bachelors degree from Wartburg College, Waverly, in 1942.

Mrs. Thompson was a public school music teacher for 25 years in Fredricksburg, Orange Township, Redfield, Independence, and Jesup schools. She also taught private piano.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, a member of the Order of Eastern Star for more than 50 years, Waterloo Chapter for over 39 years where she held the office of worthy matron in 1966 and was a member of the Past Matrons Club in Waterloo, White Shrine in Waterloo and Cedar Falls and the Kings Daughters and Sons, where she was the past county president in 1983.

Survivors include a nephew, Roger (Valerie) Thompson of Gainseville, Va.; a niece, Louise Holguin of Palm Desert, Calif.; several great-nieces and nephews; and several great-great-nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by five brothers, Vance, Fred, Robert, James and an infant; and a sister, Margaret Thompson Sprole.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, Waterloo, with burial at 1:30 p.m. in Hudson Cemetery, Hudson. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Locke Funeral Home, with a 6:30 p.m. Madonna White Shrine Service No. 47.

Memorials may be directed to the Waterloo First United Methodist Church Choir.
