Margaret Ann Knief, 93, of Readlyn, Iowa, died on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at the Maple Crest Manor in Fayette, Iowa.

Margaret Ann Knief was born on March 26, 1918, in Bremer County, Iowa, the daughter of Oscar and Meta (Hagenow) Kimball. She attended country school at Freemont # 6 in Bremer County. After her schooling she worked for families in the Tripoli and Readlyn areas. She later worked at the Tripoli Produce. She was united in marriage to Waldo Knief on May 30, 1940 at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Readlyn After their marriage the couple moved to a farm near Dunkerton and farmed for 50 years. They retired in 1988 and moved to Readlyn. She entered Maple Crest Assisted Living in September of 2007 and then Maple Crest Nursing Home in November of 2008.

Margaret was member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Klinger and the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, sewing, gardening, and playing cards.

Margaret is survived by her two daughters, Rose (Tom) Magee of Grand Junction, Colorado; and LaVonne (James) Koch of West Union, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Knief of Denver, Iowa; thirteen grandchildren, thirty one great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Florence Sells of West Union, Iowa; four half brothers, Adoulf (Mary Lou) Kimball of Manchester, Iowa; Reinhart (Nancy) Kimball of Raymond, Iowa; Victor (Shirley) Kimball of Concordia, Missouri; and Verlin Kimball of Eulis, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Waldo; her son, Loren Knief; a sister, Malane Kallenbach; a brother-in-law, Bill Kallenbach; and a great-grandchild, Dalton Trazaskos.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 29, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Klinger, rural Readlyn. Burial will be held in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Klinger.
