WATERLOO - Albert E. Gibbs, 66, of Waterloo, died Thursday, March 6, 2014, at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital.

He was born May 15, 1947, in Manchester, son of John H. and Rose Mae Strine Gibbs. He married Vera Mae Tompkins in September 2002 in Independence; she preceded him in death on Oct. 12, 2013.

He retired from John Deere after working 27 years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era.

Survived by four stepdaughters, Julie Wentz of Waterloo, Brenda (Terry) Ehlert of Waterloo, Janis (Darrell) Neesen of Janesville, Wis., and Pat (Al) Ulberg of Lincoln, Neb.; and many stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents; and his wife.

Memorial services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel. Military rites will be conducted by Becker-Chapman American Legion Post No. 138, VFW Post 1623 and the National Guard Honors Detail. Family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until services Tuesday at the funeral home.
