WATERLOO - James I. Barron, 84, of Waterloo, died Saturday, March 1, 2014, at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minn.

He was born May 7, 1929, in Waterloo, son of Guy F. and Dorothy Flater Barron. He married Dorothy Lauck June 3, 1951, in Waterloo; she died 1973. He married Evelyn Kopp in 1976 and they later divorced.

James graduated from West Waterloo High School 1947, and from the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, in 1951, with a bachelor's degree in accounting. He practiced as a Certified Public Accountant for many years and joined Mercantile Bank of Northern Iowa as a CPA in the trust department and as a tax adviser in 1981. He retired from U.S. Bank in 1999. He also was an adjunct instructor at UNI and Upper Iowa University for many years.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and was past president of Black Hawk County Association of CPAs, a member of the Estate Planning Council of Black Hawk County, American Institute of CPAs, Waterloo Elks and Waterloo Optimist Club.

Survived by two sons, Jeffery of Waterloo and Scott (Joan) of Ramsey, Minn.; two stepgrandchildren, Adam Umscheid and Katie Umscheid; three stepgreat-grandchildren, Caleb, Gavin and Ava; and a special friend, JoAnn Weatherly.

Preceded in death by his parents.

Services: 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Locke Funeral Home
