WATERLOO - Emil F. Johnson, 86, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009, at Covenant Medical Center of natural causes.

He was born Feb. 9, 1923, in Fellingsboro, Sweden, son of Emil R. and Victoria L. Celinder Johnson. On May 23, 1945, he married Arlene Case in Cedar Falls.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, achieving the rank of fireman second class. Mr. Johnson was employed at Titus Manufacturing for 25 years, then worked in shipping and receiving at Viking Pump until his retirement in 1986.

He was an active member of Concordia Lutheran Church.

Survived by his wife; two daughters, Brenda (Larry) Haar of Runnells and Linda (Michael) Kugler of Waterloo; five grandchildren, Douglas Plummer, Christopher Plummer, Mikael Haar, Crystal Flowers and Michael Kugler; five great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Landen, Skylar, Isiah and Kaden; and two sisters, Gloria Hinton of Alabama and Cera Laughlin of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by his parents; and a brother and sister from Sweden.

Services: 1 p.m. Friday at Concordia Lutheran Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 31 and Waterloo AMVETS Post 19. Public visitation from 11 a.m. until service time Friday at the church. Parrott and Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

He enjoyed working on his antique cars, RC planes and boats, but most of all, Emil loved spending time with his grandchildren. Emil will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
