CEDAR FALLS - Richard E. Cleaver Jr., 79, formerly of Waterloo, died Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at Manor Care, Cedar Rapids.

He was born Sept. 28, 1934, in Iola, Kan., son of Richard Sr. and Dora Chambers Cleaver. On Aug. 1, 1952, he married Virginia Bowser in Arkansas City, Kan.; she died March 10, 2007.

A U.S. Army veteran, Richard received a bachelor’s degree in education from Southwestern University, and a master's degree from the University of Northern Iowa. He spent his career in Waterloo teaching industrial technology for West Junior and East High Schools.

Survived by two sons, Richard of Marion and Phillip of Encino, Calif.; and his stepmother, Fern Cleaver of St. Joseph, Mo.

Preceded in death by a brother, Russell; and a stepbrother, Kenneth.

Memorial services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Richardson Funeral Service, preceded by an hour of visitation.
