WATERLOO - Mary A. Haskell, 90, of Waterloo, died Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home of complications from surgery.

She was born Feb. 28, 1923, in rural Grundy County, daughter of Alva O. “A.O.” and Ferne Sherbon Heltibridle. She married Charles ”Charlie” Haskell on Feb. 28, 1959, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua; he died July 5, 1990.

Mary graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1941. She was employed at Northwestern Bell Telephone Co., Waterloo, for 35 years, retiring in 1983.

Survived by a sister, Lois J. Bern of Reinbeck; her special friend, Harold Metzger of Waterloo; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Ralph and Glen Heltibridle; and two sisters, Margaret Skinner and Helen Thompson.

Memorial services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel, with inurnment at a later date. The family will greet friends at a luncheon immediately following the service in the community room at the funeral home.

Mary loved taking care of her yard and flowers and to crochet. She also was devoted to her family.
