CEDAR FALLS - James J. Houser, 81, of Monticello, formerly of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a brief illness.

He was born Feb. 24, 1924, in Numa, son of Frank and Velma Lawson Houser. He married Agnes Jensen April 22, 1967, in Preston, Minn.

He graduated from Seymour Community Schools in 1942 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater. Mr. Houser attended Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, for two years and later went to work at Jones DX, Cedar Falls, where he was employed for 38 years.

Survived by his wife, Agnes; a stepdaughter, Barbara (Larry) Himes of Monticello; a half sister, Wilma Hoelscher of Fairdealing, Mo.; seven stepgrandchildren; and 18 stepgreat-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a sister, Gloria.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, with burial in the Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo. Friends may call from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
