Death of "Billy" Cole

After suffering for many days, death came to Billy Cole at 8:07 last night, and he passed away without a struggle. He was conscious almost to the last, and, a short time before his death, as a number of his friends stood beside his bed, he waved his hands to them in a last touching farewell.

William Cole was born in Victory, Cayuga Co., N. Y., May 7, 1847, and the month which saw his birth also smiled upon his wedding day and dropped tears upon his death bed.

He leaves a wife and two sons, one 14 years of age and the other 7.

He has for 16 years been a representative of the Merchants' Despatch Transportation Co., and the company so appreciated his services in their behalf while he was in good health that they continued his salary since he has been incapacitated by sickness. He died of consumption, which resulted from an attack of the grip, and though change of climate and everything that medical skill could devise was tried, nothing could resist the advance of the destroyer.

During his residence in this city he has made hosts of friends, whose sympathy went out to him during his sickness, and who, together with the stricken family, sincerely mourn his death.

Funeral services will be held here probably next Monday, and the remains will be taken to St. Louis for burial. Before his death he made all arrangements for his funeral, selecting clergyman, singers and hymns and expressing a desire that W. S. Benson, W. I. Moody, F. J. Jenness, F. B. Coleman, F. E. Woodruff and S. Shilliam act as pall bearers.
