CEDAR FALLS - Doris Mae Smith, 93, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, at Windsor Nursing and Rehab Center of natural causes.

She was born Aug. 18, 1920, in Aurelia, daughter of Clarence and Evelyn Harmon Wheeler. She married Howard A. Smith Sr. on Dec. 12, 1939, in Waterloo, and they later divorced.

Doris graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1938. She worked at John Deere during World War II as an inspector, and left when the war was over. She then worked for Weyerhaeuser in Minnesota until retirement. She was a member at Westminster Presbyterian Church and of the Order of Eastern Star.

Survived by a son, Howard A. Jr. of Henderson, Nev.; a son-in-law, Robert VanSickle of Cedar Falls; four grandchildren, Nicole (Richard) Masters, Kimberly (Matthew) Hansen, and Eric and Scot VanSickle; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Diana VanSickle; and her former husband.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, with burial in Garden of Memories, both in Waterloo. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, Waterloo, and for an hour before services Friday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church.

Doris enjoyed quilting, knitting and cross stitch, and met monthly for lunch with the “girls” she graduated high school with. Doris will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
