Lyle L. Adams, age 91, of Cedar Falls died Saturday, February 14, 2009 at the Lutheran Home in Cedar Falls.

He was born August 29, 1917 in New Providence, Iowa, the son of Oral & Pearl (Wright) Adams. Lyle graduated from Union, Iowa High School with the class of 1936. he then worked as a farm hand until joining the U.S. Army in August 1941. He served with the 128th Field Artillary, attended radioman's school and then served with the 556th Engineering Heavy Pontoon Battalion in the South Pacific Theater until his Honorable Discharge on October 23, 1945.

Lyle was united in marriage with Violetta L. Schwake on November 26, 1947. He worked at Rath Packing Company in Waterloo and then worked as a meter reader with Iowa Public Service (IPS) for 35 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of AMVETS Post #49 in Cedar Falls.

Survivors include his wife, Violetta of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Dixie (Gary) Floss of Dunkerton, Iowa; six sons, Bruce (Rita) Adams of Cornersville, TN, Jerry (Lori) Adams of Cedar Falls, Neil (Susie) Adams of Waterloo, Terry (Ginny) Adams of Finchford, Rex (Maggie) Adams of Holiday Lake, IA, and Kevin Adams of Waterloo. Lyle was blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceeded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Katy Marie Adams; a brother, Merle Adams and a special cousin, Ethel Bowers.

Funeral services 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at Garden View Chapel in Waterloo. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by Guy W. Iverson AMVETS Post #49 of Cedar Falls. Visitation from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday and after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Garden View Chapel.
