WATERLOO - Burton "Barney" Harden, 81, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, June 14, 2005, at Allen Hospital of natural causes.

He was born March 8, 1924, in Waterloo, son of Harold and Pearl Nicol Harden. He married Margie Halligan June 6, 1947, in Cedar Falls.

After high school, he served in the Army Infantry. Barney later worked at J.C. Penneys in the display department for 40 years, retiring April 5, 1985.

He loved playing golf and enjoyed being a member of the Elks Club.

Survived by his wife, Margie; and his daughter, Sue.

Preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Donald Harden.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 1926 Sager Ave., Waterloo, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 138 and Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 1623. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, and for an hour before services at the church on Friday.

Memorials may be directed to Waterloo Elks Club or American Heart Association.
