Charles J. Cowell, 96, formerly of 1028 Franklin St., died at 10 a.m. Friday at the Melvem Guest Home where he had lived for six months. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. tomorrow at Parrott & Wood Funeral Home with graveside services at 2:30 p.m. at the Hazleton Cemetery, Hazleton.

Mr. Cowell was born July 26, 1878, at Hazleton, the son of Joshua and Frances House Cowell.

He married Bertha Merrill in October, 1899, in Buchanan County. He retired from Construction Machinery Corp. in 1946.

He is survived by two sons, Leslie Cowell of 1309 W. Second St. and Cleo Cowell of Cardiff by the Sea, Calif.
