Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Kearns- Dykeman Chapel for Fred Mattoon, 89, formerly of 226 Leland Ave., and recently of Edith's Rest Home, who died there at 7 p.m. Wednesday of a stroke. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Thursday and from 4-9 p.m. Friday.

He was born in Olney, Ill., on Nov. 14, 1879, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Mattoon. He married Elizabeth Ann on Dec. 24, 1909, in East St. Louis, Ill.

He farmed most of his life in the Britt area and after moving to Waterloo 25 years ago was employed by the John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works for six years.

He attended the First Church of the Open Bible.

His only survivors are nieces and nephews in Illinois, and he was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one sister.
