WATERLOO - Dr. Raymond W. Carson, 83, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at Friendship Village Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 4, 1925, in Des Moines, son of Harry and Lillian Walker Carson. He married Margaret Georgia Bussanmas on June 9, 1948, in Churchville.

Dr. Carson graduated from the University of Iowa Medical School in 1947 and served his internship in Flint, Mich. He practiced medicine in Winterset for 25 years and in Waterloo until his retirement in 1997. He was a member of the American Board of Family Practice and was a veteran of the U.S. Army Medical Corps during the Korean War.

Survived by his wife; five daughters, Margaret (Andrew) Szumowski of Springfield, Mass., Patricia Carson of Los Angeles, Georgeen (Patrick Corrigan) Carson of Glenview, Ill., Kathleen Carson (Jeffrey) Asher of Oakland, Calif., and Christine (Ron) Kuramoto of Milwaukee, Wis.; a son, Steven (Jenny) of Washington, D.C.; and nine grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a son, Michael in 1992.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Edward Catholic Church, with entombment in Mount Olivet Mausoleum, where flag folding rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to St. Edward Catholic Church.
