Services for James Verne Karkosh, 64, of 128 Summit Ave., who died in St. Barnabas Hospital in New York City Monday morning of complications following surgery, are pending at Locke Funeral Home.

Friends may call at Locke Funeral Home afternoon Thursday. Waterloo Lodge 105 will open lodge at 7 p.m. Thursday and will conduct services at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Karkosh was born in Tama County on Aug. 6, 1908 the son of James and Julia Karkosh. He married Minnie Vahrenwald on April 21, 1926, in the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

Mr. Karkosh was employed by the John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works, retiring in 1972 He was a member of Kimball Ave. United Methodist Church, and was active in Masons, serving as past master of the Waterloo Lodge 105 AF&AM. and was a member of the Crescent Council No. 16 RSM, Chapter No. 52 of RAM, Aschalon Commandery No 25 KT, El Kahir Shrine Temple, the White Shrine of Jerusalem, and the John Deere Retirees Union Local 838.

Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Jean Karkosh of 1191 Lindner Dr., and Mrs. Carel Miller of Beal Air Force Base, Calif.; seven sisters, Mrs. Agnes Splichal of 1522 W. 4th St.. Mrs, Albina Cizek and Mrs. Gladys Raymond, both of Clutier; Mrs. Julia Lorenzen of Toledo, Mrs. Eva Popper of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Dorothy Dovark of Davenport; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister.
