VINTON - G. Allen McNamee, 95, of Vinton, formerly of Waterloo and Bella Vista, Ark., died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, at the Vinton Lutheran Home following an extended illness.
He was born Nov. 20, 1918, near Dysart, son of Amor T. and Mary C. Ruth McNamee. He married Dorothy Mae Brown on May 8, 1940, in Tama; she died in June 1986. He later married Dorothy M. Wilson Nelson on Aug. 27, 1987, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Waterloo; she died Aug. 5, 2009.
Mr. McNamee graduated from Geneseo High School in 1936 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked as an electrician and appliance repair man, owning and operating Al’s Appliance Repair Service, and later worked as a building inspector for Cedar Falls Utilities. He was a member of Vinton Presbyterian Church.
Survived by a son, James (Marlene) of Waterloo; a daughter, Ruth Ann (Robert) Evans of North English; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; a stepdaughter, Lisa Gunn of Des Moines; two stepsons, the Rev. Dr. James Nelson of Seaside, Calif., and Robert Nelson of Delanson, N.Y.; and several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael LeRoy; three brothers, Virgil, Duane and Eldon; a sister, Dorothy Olson; and a stepdaughter, Patricia Lea Montomery.
Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Vinton Presbyterian Church, preceded by an hour of visitation, with burial at 2 p.m. in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo. Full military rites will be conducted at the church by Geo. G. Luckey American Legion Post 57 and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. Phillips Funeral Home, Vinton, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be directed to the church.
