WATERLOO - Robert J. Meighan, 76, of Waterloo, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2007, at Cedar Valley Hospice.

He was born March 10, 1931, in Chickasaw County, son of John L. and Mary J. Brown Meighan. He married Bonnie Lou Draheim April 30, 1955, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, New Hampton.

He was in the Navy, serving as a boatswain's mate second class during the Korean War. He then worked as a superintendent of sanitation at Rath Packing Co. for 36 years, and then with Covenant Medical Center for seven years, retiring June 11, 1993.

Survived by his wife, Bonnie; a son, Jeff (Sally) of Waterloo; three daughters, Lori (Chris) Curry of Evansdale and Kim (Scott) Murphy and Julie (Dennis) Grove, both of Waterloo; nine grandchildren, Josh and Eric Meighan, Ashley and Aimee Murphy, Michael and Bobby Dunakey and Kahlan Curry and Garrett and Mitchell Grove; four stepgrandchildren, Joel, Jeremy, Jeff and Justin Derifield; a great-grandchild and six stepgreat-grandchildren; two sisters, Bette Rochford of New Hampton and Elaine (Joel) Klisert of Johnston; and a sister-in-law, Kay Meighan of Johnston.

Preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Margaret Meighan, Anna Mae Meighan, Evelyn (Ralph) Dittmann, Maxine Meighan and Madonna (Paul) Chabak; his twin brother, William; a brother-in-law, Tom Rochford; and a niece, Michelle Meighan.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by Evansdale Amvets Post 31 and Waterloo Amvets Post 19. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services at the church on Thursday.

Memorials may be directed to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or Cedar Valley Hospice.
