Roland W. Hathaway, 71, of 824 W. Third St., died Saturday, Sept. 14, 1991, at Allen Memorial Hospital of natural causes.

He was born Aug. 31, 1920, in Beaver Dam, Wis., son of Charles Wesley and Anna Stout Hathaway. He married Lillian F. Elliott on Feb. 26, 1944, in Waterloo.

Mr. Hathaway was employed as a too! and die maker at Deere & Co. for more than 41 years, retiring in 1982. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Lona Smith and Rolene Wehr, both of Waterloo; and five grandchildren; he was preceded in death by a twin brother, Russell Charles in 1964.

Private family services will be Tuesday at Parrott & Wood Funeral Home, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Becker-Chapman Post 138 American Legion and Waterloo Post 1623 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church.
