Russell Hathaway, 43, of 1708 W. 3rd St., died about 7:30 a. m. Thursday at Schoitz Memorial Hospital of complications of diabetes

He was born Aug. 31, 1920, in Beaver Dam, Wis., the son of Charles W. and Anna Stout Hathaway. He was employed for the past 12 years by the Iowa Highway Commission as a sergeant in the weighing department.

Mr. Hathaway married Elizabeth Kiefer on June 25, 1942, at Nashua.

He was a member of the Bethel United Presbyterian Church of Waterloo, a 1938 graduate of East Waterloo High School, and a World War II veteran, having served in the Navy in the South Pacific.

Survivors include his widow, a son, Robert C., of 1560 Independence Ave.; a brother, Roland, of 824 W. 3rd St.; and one grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services are pending at the Parrott & Wood Funeral Home where friends may call after 10 a.m. Friday.

Funeral services for Russell Hathaway, 43, of 1708 W. 3rd St., who died Thursday of complications of diabetes, will be at 2 p. m. Saturday at the Bethel United Presbyterian Church of Waterloo. The Rev. Earle D. McCrea, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories. American Legion Post No. 138 will conduct the flag presentation at the graveside. Friends may call at the Parrott & Wood Funeral Home until noon Saturday at at the church until service time. The casket will not be opened following the services.
