Alton R. Hanson, 73, of Independence, formerly of Waterloo, died Thursday, Sept. 12, 1991, at his home of natural causes.

He was born May 11, 1918, in Waterville, son of Otto and Matilda Sorenson Hanson. He married Elsie Strelow, and they were later divorced.

Mr. Hanson was employed in the construction business in Waterloo.

Survivors include four sons, Carlton and Ronnie, both of Waterloo, and Glen and Dale, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; two daughters, Joyce Armstrong and Joann Armstrong, both of Waterloo; 19 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Graveside services were 1 p.m. today at East Synod Lutheran Church Cemetery in Waterviile. Parrott & Wood Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
