[Waterloo Daily Courier, Friday, May 4, 1906, Waterloo, Iowa]

Alexander Letchford, who was burried yesterday, had quite an interesting career for a young man, having spent four years in garrison duty in India, being stationed at Calcutta.

He was born Aug. 1, 1879, in Halling, Kent, England, and joined the English army as soon as he came of age. In that service he spent seven years and fifteen days, being invalided out of service with the highest recommendations for character, conduct and ability.

He was married to Miss Sarah Smith in Halling Church, Kent, England, the same church in which she was baptized.

In Halling their little daughter, who died last summer, was born to them. Mr. and Mrs. Letchford and baby came from England to Waterloo two years ago, hoping the change of element would be of benefit to Mr. Letchford's health, but it was of little use Rev. G. E. Platt officiated at the funeral at St. Mark's Church yesterday.

His parents, wife, one brother and two sisters survive him, all residents of Waterloo.
