John Merle McKeown, 88, formerly of 326 Riehl St., died Thursday, Oct. 26, 1999 at Parkview Gardens Nursing and Rehab Center of natural causes.

He was born July 21, 1912, in Clinton, Ill., son of Earl C. and Inez M. Bone McKeown. He married Marguerite M. Morin on July 23, 1937, in Clinton. Mr. McKeown was an electrician for Illinois Central Railroad for 42 years, retiring in 1975.

Survived by his wife; a son, John David of Waterloo; three daughters, Mary Ackerman of Guttenberg, Harriet Cull of Alburnett and Catherine McKeown of Union City, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a brother, Francis G.; and a sister, Marie G. McKeown.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 3 p.m. rosary. Visitation also for an hour before services Monday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church.
