EVANSDALE -- Margaret Handlen, 87, of Montezuma, formerly of Evansdale, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, at Montezuma Nursing and Rehab Center of cancer.

She was born Jan. 31, 1926, daughter of Pete and Josephine Radke Pappas. On Jan. 27, 1948, she married Hollis Handlen; he died in August 1986. On June 10, 1994, she married Arno Behrens and they later divorced.

She was a homemaker her entire life.

Survived by a son, Larry (Linda) Fulk of Villisca; three daughters, Kathy (Ronald) Zars of Montezuma, Cynthia (Matt) Hunsicker of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Barbara (Greg) Roach of Evansdale; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Diane "Chris" Bean of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Patricia Boland; a sister, Mary Padulla; and two grandsons.

Service of remembrance: 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel, Waterloo, preceded by an hour of visitation, with graveside services at 1 p.m. at Hillside Cemetery, Cedar Falls.
