WATERLOO - Tommie Van Arsdale, 77, of 526 Iowa St., died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001 at Parkview Nursing and Rehab Center of natural causes.

He was born Sept. 20, 1923, in Durant, Miss., the son of Robert and Olifie Harmon Van Arsdale. He married Verlean Lackey May 11, 1963, in Preston, Minn.

A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Van Arsdale was formerly employed at Rath Packing Co. for 32 years, retiring in 1972. He then worked as a funeral service associate at Sanders Funeral Service. He was also master of Exchequer for Ferguson Lodge No. 5.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Anthony Tisdale of Waterloo and Obert Tisdale of St. Louis, Mo.; two grandchildren, Mrs. Youlanda Tisdale Robinson of Waterloo and Sarah Gibson Tisdale of St. Louis; and a sister, Dorothy Miniex of Omaha, Neb.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Payne Memorial A.M.E. Church, with burial in the Garden of Hymns section of the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Chapel committal service will be in chapel mausoleum with full military rites by American Legion Post 138 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623. Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday at the church, where there will be a 5 p.m. Knights of Pythias service.
