Dorothy Jean Sewell, 80, of Green Bay, Wis., formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, March 8, 2002, in Green Bay after a 5-month illness. Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Green Bay Community Church, Howard, Wis., where friends may call after 9 a.m. Wednesday. Arrangements with Blaney Funeral Home, Green Bay, Wis.

Survivors include her husband, John; a son, Tom Sewell of Aurora, Ill.; a daughter, Maryjane of Green Bay, Wis.; and two sisters, Patricia Boughton of Wichita, Kan., and Joan Root of Denver, Colo. Also surviving are a daughter-in-law, Karen Sewell; a son-in-law, Nathan Schwartz; her grandchildren, Crystal Sewell, Kyle Schwartz and Brenna Schwartz; and brothers-in-law, Harrison Boughton and Robert Root.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mary Jane Brown; a sister and brother-in-law, Lucille and & William Kuker; and many other relatives.

She was born Sept. 3, 1921, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Robert and Sylvia (Makinster) Brown. Dorothy grew up in a family with three sisters and loving parents. Following graduation from high school, she worked for several years at the John Deere Plant in Waterloo.
Dorothy married John Sewell in Waterloo. Together they lived in Waterloo, where they had their first son, Tom. They later moved to Fort Dodge, where they had their daughter, Maryjane. Two years later, they moved to Cedar Rapids, where John worked for the Cedar Rapids Public School system.

Dorothy was a homemaker, an avid shopper and a member of the Hertz Drive Bridge Club. She was a deaconess at the Cedar Rapids First Congregational Church. In 1966, they moved to Green Bay. For many of those years, Dorothy was the secretary and office manager of Jelco Busses. She also performed taxi service for her children and their friends without complaint. She was a second mother to many and was a loving mother and grandmother. In her later years, she loved to travel and went on many show tours and cruises with her daughter. She was adored by her grandchildren.
