WATERLOO - Robert D. "Bob" Phelps, 81, of Waterloo, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000 at Covenant Medical Center of lung cancer.

He was born April 22, 1919, in Des Moines, son of William C. and Mary D. Farkes Phelps. He married Evelyn M. Lowe on June 26, 1949, in Waterloo.

Mr. Phelps was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in the European Theater. He had been employed as a carpenter for various construction companies.

Survived by his wife; two daughters, Mary E. Hoffman of Storm Lake and Vicki Kirkes of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother; and three sisters.

Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at Parrott & Wood Family Funeral Care, with burial in Garden of Memories. Flag-folding rites will be conducted by Becker-Chapman American Legion Post 138 and Waterloo Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623. Friends may call from 5:30 to 8 p.m. today and for an hour before services Thursday at the funeral home.
