WATERLOO - The Rev. James Curtiss "Curt" Russell, 83, formerly of Waterloo, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at Maple Manor Nursing Home, Aplington, of natural causes.

He was born in Oct. 10, 1917, in Sparland, Ill., son of Charles and Ella Hastings Russell. He married Betty Samuels on May 16, 1942.

Mr. Russell graduated from Monmouth College, Monmouth, Ill., and from Pittsburgh Xenia Seminary. He served pastorates in Wisconsin, Illinois, Pennsylvania and Iowa, retiring after 50 years.

Survived by his wife; a daughter, Martha Coltvet of Cedar Falls; a son, Jim of Forest City; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Eleanor Larson of Sycamore, Ill.

Preceded in death by a sister, Mary Louise Hartshorn.

Memorial services: 2 p.m. Saturday at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, Waterloo. There will be no visitation.

Memorials may be directed to the family; a memorial fund has been established.
