Former resident Dorothy Jean Simonsen Buchanan, born Sept. 8, 1921, in Waterloo, died Dec. 2, 2000. in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Dorothy was a West High School graduate and attended Lindenwood College for Women in St. Charles, Mo. She was a 50-year member of the PEO Sisterhood and was an active volunteer in many organizations.

She married Thomas Buchanan in 1942. Dorothy lived in many places as she and Tom pursued a career with Ford Motor Co. They retired in Scottsdale Ariz., in 1978.

Survivors include her husband, Tom; a daughter, Deborah of Portland, Ore.; a son, John of Beaverton, Ore.; three grandchildren, Emily, Harmony and Thomas: and a brother, Richard, who lives in Mesa, Ariz.

Services were held Dec. 9, 2000, in the Valley Presbyterian Chapel, Paradise Valley, Ariz.

A second memorial service is pending for this spring at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery.
