WATERLOO — Fred D. Hughes, 74, of 936 W. Mullan Ave., died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, at the Covenant Medical Center emergency room of a heart attack.

He was born July 14, 1926, in Chicago, son of Fred and Cora Berg Hughes. Mr. Hughes was employed with Winterbottom Supply Co. for 43 years, retiring in 1990. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Survived by a brother, Robert of Fort Worth, Texas.

Preceded in death by a sister, Conine Northcutt

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 138 and Veterans
of Foreign Wars Post 1623. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 6 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the St. Vincent de Paul Society or Cedar Valley Hospice.
