WATERLOO — Gene Redmon, 64, of Waterloo, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at home from complications of a lengthy illness.

He was born Jan 7, 1936, in Ottumwa, son of Harry and Grace Dunn Redmon. He married Carol Lee Allen on April 19, 1964.

Mr. Redmon worked at Rath Packing Co. from 1954-71, worked for the Black Hawk Union Council from 1971-84, served as Cedar Valley United Way labor liaison from 1985-96 and was currently employed by the Iowa Federation of Labor. He was president of Local 46 and of Black Hawk Union Council AFL-CIO and was chairman of the United Way Bargaining Unit.

Survived by his wife; three sons, Lee and Allen Dumil, both of Jesup, and Tim Redmon of Tucson, Ariz.; three children from a previous marriage; nine grandchildren; and three sisters, Mildred Ferber of Iowa City, Marvel McCarroll of Agency and Marilyn Wilson of Asheville, N. C.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Max and Marvin.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Locke Funeral Home, with burial in Garden of Memories. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
