HORTON - Janice Kay Carpenter, 56, of Horton, died at her home Tuesday, June 15, 2010, from complications of cancer.

She was born Dec. 13, 1953, in Waterloo, daughter of Sanford and Carolyn Kalkwarf Lewis. She married Gary Carpenter June 1, 1973, in Horton.

Mrs. Carpenter graduated from Denver High School in 1972. She worked several jobs during her life, and also was a stay-at-home mom. She was a member of Horton Baptist Church and was a Plainfield First Responder for 20 years.

Survived by her husband; three sons, Gaylen (Jody) of Waverly, Garen (Ariane) of North Liberty and Gareld (Rebecca) of Plainfield; nine grandchildren, her mother of Arkansas; a brother, Michael (Sheryl) Lewis of Arkansas, and three sisters, Kathy Van Lieu of California, Patricia Machen of Texas and Valinda (Lyle) Scott of Stout.

Preceded in death by her father.

Services: 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Horton Baptist Church, with burial in Horton Cemetery. Public visitation from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, with family present 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
