Ernest Lee "Ernie" Kirchoff, 76, of rural Denver, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at Sartori Memorial Hospital, Cedar Falls.

He was born Aug. 13, 1936, in Denver, son of August E. and Mary L. Struckman Kirchoff. He married Ann E. Brown on Feb. 23, 1959, at First Methodist Church, Glendale, Calif.

Mr. Kirchoff graduated from Janesville High School, then served in the U.S. Marine Corps. In early years, he worked as a sportswriter for the Cedar Falls Daily Record. He retired in 2001 as a supervisor from Weyerhaeuser, Waterloo, after 37 years of service. He also farmed his entire working life on the family farm.

Survived by his wife; two daughters, Veronica (Chuck) Wilmot of Denver and Linda (Dan) Heath of Cedar Falls; two sons, Jeff of Denver and Scott of Readlyn; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Gerald Bruns of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by siblings; and a grandson.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Messiah Lutheran Church, Janesville, with burial in Harlington Cemetery, Waverly. Military rites will be conducted by Waverly Area Veterans Group. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, and for an hour before services Monday at the church.
