Richard "Rick" Brickman, 51, of Las Vegas, formerly of Readlyn, died Aug. 9, 2005, at the Nathan Adelson Hospice, Las Vegas, of cancer.

He was born Dec. 27, 1953, in Waterloo, son of Arlen and Donna Brickman.

Mr. Brickman graduated from Wapsie Valley High School, Fairbank, then joined the Air Force and attended the Defense Language Institute, Monterey, Calif. He then enrolled at Iowa State University on the Air Forces Airman Scholarship Commissioning Program to study aerospace engineering. After earning his masters degree, he attended various F-16 flight training schools and was stationed in Kunsan, Korea, as a captain with the 80th Tactical Fighter Squadron. In 1996 he earned a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering at UNLV and most recently taught mathematics and statistics at the University of Phoenix, Las Vegas Campus.

Survivors include his wife, Bette; a son, Jordan of Las Vegas; his parents of Readlyn; and a sister, Becky "Rich" McBurney of Plainfield.

Private services were held at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City, Colo.
