WATERLOO - Mary Virginia Kidwell, 81, of 3912 Onawa Drive, died Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2005, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

She was born Oct. 6, 1923, in Waterloo, daughter of Peter and Minnie Haberzeth Schaefer. She married John D. Kidwell Oct. 19, 1946, in Waterloo. He died April 28, 1989.

She was a 1942 graduate of St. Marys High School and received her RN degree from St. Francis Nursing School, Freeport, Ill. She was an RN at St. Francis Hospital for 30 years and for 10 years at the Americana Health System, retiring in 1993.

She was a member of the ACCW, St. Marys Alumni Association, St. Marys Villa Board, St. Marys volunteer group, Rosary Society and the church cleaning committee.

Survivors include four daughters, Patricia (Jim) Lee of Rockford, Ill., Ginger (Vance) Peterson of Adel, Ann (Steve) Tippett of Waterloo and Jennifer (Rob) Wilken of West Des Moines; 13 grandchildren, Jim (Michelle) Lee, John Lee, Kara Lee, Krista (Dan) Stockman, Katie (Nick) Franceschi, Eric (Heather) Peterson, Nathan (Jennifer) Peterson, Todd (Ashley) Peterson, Elly (Marcus) Dengler, Steve Tippett, Ashley Tippett, Alex Wilken and Lindsay Wilken; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Melvin (Joan) Schaefer of Papillion, Neb., and Charles J. Schaefer of Waterloo; two sisters, Sister Barbara Schaefer O.S.F. of Dubuque and Gloria (Ken) Barfield of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Diana Schaefer.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Queen of Peace Chapel, East Fourth Street, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation also for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or Queen of Peace School.
