Robert F. "Bob" McDonald, 89, of Denver, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at Covenant Medical Center of kidney failure.

He was born May 29, 1924, in Jesup, son on Reuben F. and Florence M. Treanor McDonald. He married Dorothy M. Stitchman on Dec. 18, 1947, in Waterloo; she preceded him in death on July 12, 2007.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. McDonald worked as an electrical engineer at John Deere for more than 10 years and then as a self-employed engineer, where he owned and operated Bob’s Milling Service. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Parish. He was active in the Becker-Chapman American Legion Post 138, Sea Explorers, model railroading, square dancing, Rambling Rose Campers and a long-time Allen Hospital volunteer.

Survived by a son, Paul D. (Patti) of Hampden, Mass; a daughter, Susan K. (Ray) McClure of Denver; five grandchildren, Christopher P. (Jenni) McDonald, Timothy R. (Allie) McDonald, Sara (Mark) McDonald Boylen, Matthew McClure and KayMarie (Jason) McClure Wenzel; eight great-grandchildren, Aiden, Alissa, Kayla, Dougie, Dylan, Bailey, Abigail and Jamason; and a sister-in-law, Ray Stitchman of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marian V. Lynn; a brother-in-law, Stuart Stitchman; and a sister-in-law, Lillian Hamilton.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity Episcopal Parish, with military rites conducted at the church by Becker-Chapman American Legion Post 138, V.F.W. Post 1623 and the Iowa National Guard Honor Detail. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. today at Kearns Funeral Service Kimball Chapel.

Memorials in lieu of flowers, may be directed to the parish.
