Dr. Daniel William Miller MD, 36, of Dossenheim, Germany, and formerly of Cedar Falls, was born the son of Robert L. and Lanora F. (Gersema) Miller on March 17, 1970, in Cedar Falls, and passed away August 15, 2006, in Heidelberg, Germany, from complications of cancer.

Dan grew up in Cedar Falls and attended school in the Cedar Falls Community District through the 11th grade and later transferred to Sheboygan, Wisconsin, where he graduated in 1988. He was also a member of the Cedar Heights Presbyterian Church in Cedar Falls. He attended Iowa State University for two years and later transferred to the University of Iowa to study medicine. While doing his undergraduate work at U of I, he met and married Elisabeth Von Eyb on May 22, 1993, in Ebermansdorf, Germany. Upon his graduation from the University of Iowa, he chose to attend medical school in German at the University of Marburg in Marburg, Germany, and later transferred to the University of Heidelberg where he received his medical doctorate. He was in the final year of residency in ophthalmology, there. Dan was an active person who enjoyed life, liked to bicycle, fly fish, cook gourmet meals, be with friends and family, and had a great love for people.

Dan is survived by his wife Elisabeth, two children: Felix C., 5 years, and Fiona E., 3 years, all of Dossenheim, Germany, his parents: Robert L. and Lanora F. Miller of Galena, Illinois, his brother Greg A. and wife Donna S. Miller and their children, Ethan, Grant and Lance of Lake Barrington, Illinois, his paternal grandparents, Harvey and Marjorie Miller of Clarksville, his father and mother-in-law, Eckart and Elisabeth Von Eyb of Ebermansdorf, Germany, aunts, uncles, colleagues, friends and many other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Henry and Grace Gersema.

There will be a memorial service at the Cedar Heights Presbyterian Church in Cedar Falls, on September 16, 2006, at 1 p.m. conducted by the Rev. Cathy Young. A memorial service was also held in Heidelberg, Germany, on Friday, August 18, 2006, and family funeral services were held August 19, 2006, in Ebermannsdorf, Germany with burial in the family cemetery there.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to either the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, or the Leukemia-Lymphoma Society.
